    Review

    From Bear Hill:
"house of blues was an odd choice for mogwai to play. our first time there for a gig but we knew it was in the downtown loop which meant criminal parking rates being a saturday night in chicago. we saved on the hotel having booking many months ago so i guess it's a wash, but still, it stung to say the least. the house of blues is a beautiful venue and the sound is fantastic. don't know the capacity off hand but it would appear the band are reaching another level of fan interest as it appears bigger than the metro. gone are the days of catching them at venues like the beachland in cleveland or logan square here in chicago where we saw them for in '06. good for them.

i feel alex is really staking a claim in the mogwai live show. john is much missed but alex is quite entertaining to watch. cat played well and again it was interesting to see a new incarnation of the band. we hope martin is recovering, it is unnerving that he has been off for this long.

highlights were jim morrison, 2 rights, fife and an absolutely crushing version of remurdered. stuart had monitor issues during helicon and it was quite entertaining to see him keep the bassline steady until the problem was fixed. the bigger crowds also mean lots of first timers who don't get that you hold loud conversations about american college football during the quieter sections ie. intro to helicon. stuart shot more than a few impressive death glares."
