    from sean:

i attended 'gwai's show last night (march 6th) at the avalon in new york city. one word...amazing. the club, previously known as the limelight, held a reported 365 people, and the acoustics were stellar! growing opened the show with a good set of guitar squalls, which at times were trancelike, and most people in the crowd seemed to enjoy them, myself included.

this was the first time i've ever seen the 'gwai and they blew me away! the show was beautiful, they sounded amazing, and aside from a few equipment malfunctions (barry's pedal shorted out twice) they played amazingly! unfortunately there were more than a few "screamers" who vocalized themselves during the quiet parts of songs, most especially annoying was during "take me somewhere nice", which also happened to be a highlight of mine! during the equipment malfunctions the crowd kept asking stuart to tell some stories, to which stuart replied "we don't really do stories..." shortly after that others in the crowd yelled out song requests, to which stuart replied, "we don't really do requests either." someone in the crowd had been requesting "ratts" throughout the whole show. all in all, the band seemed to be in good spirits throughout the show!

the new songs were truly amazing live! i had listened to the bbc show from jan 31st more times that i should admit to and seeing them played live just makes everything else pale in comparison! the main set ending of "glasgow mega snake" saw the band truly enjoying themselves. it would appear that either "travel is dangerous" or more likely "glasgow mega snake" will become a crowd favorite and live standout akin to "satan" and "xmas steps". the band really let loose when playing 'satan' with stuart leaving the stage last after playing with his pedals for a while! absolutely stunning performance by a truly amazing band! i just wish i could see them again tonight! although my ears might need a rest!
