bit of a strange gig for me. i never venture in to norwich sh*tty being a
ipswich town fc fan. nevertheless, when it's the nearest gig of your
favourite band to your hometown of felixstowe (a little sunny town on the
east coast) you have to go. my friend, calvin (who doesn't have a football
team preference) even drove me past the dreaded yellow and green of carrow
road. not nice. the gig was amazing though. the waterfront was basically
a student bar with a long hall and a crowd evenly split with strange drunk,
crusty, student-types and mad mogwai obsessives. the band started with
'hunted by a freak', but the second song 'you don't know jesus' really set the
pace. i have to admit the most annoying part of the concert was when some
geeky, sober, smelly student-type (who had initially pushed in front of me
when the band had started) made a phone call during the delicate intro of
christmas steps to tell his friend he had blagged his way in a gig of a band
he had never heard. so irritating was this that even stuart from the 'gwai
noticed, and pulled a frown. all in all the gig rocked. i thought mogwai
tended to hurry near the end - presumably in order to catch the latest
celtic score. my other minor moan was that the sound, when distorted,
seemed to be a little muffled....or was it just my ears bleeding. great
gig.
