well well..mogwai time...we get to the club early, which was on top of a
bowling alley, so we decided to bowl a game...and lo and behold, right into
our 4th frame, mogwai pops down and bowls right beside us..it was, um, very
strange actually...seeing them all bowling in a shitty bowling alley in
Detriot made me almost chuckle..anyway i went up and met 'em..actually, i
only shook hands and spoke briefly to Stuart while the rest of the band were
bowling, he was a very nice guy..very boy-ish (if that makes any sense) i
only had few words because i didn't want to bother them...then the show
started and Ganger REALLY blew me away...i had no idea they would be so
amazing live...powerful, tortoise-esque (at least i thought) noise pop? eh, i
hate labels...anyway..i was very happy with 'em..then came mogwai...and let
me state something here...i had high expectations..but in no way could i ever
begin to imagine how powerful, shattering, thick and elegant they would be
live...the air hung with hushed brillance as the songs trailed through quiet
means, and shook with insane fury as they took on ominous tones...i was
deeply moved...and of course the insane wall of noise followed at the end...
leading up to
Stuart playing drums along with Martin and bashing at his feedbacking guitar
with a drum stick on occasion..i do believe all 15 pedals were turned on at
this point..highlight was Stuart's use of a little action figure that makes
sound effects through a delay..i wonder where that noise in BMX came
from...i...i feel now like i am speechless...feeling mogwai's songs in your
gut as they play can do that to you...i'm thankful they finally made it to
America...i'm a changed man
thanks, sam
