    from alexander martin:

mogwai were a painful treat to my delicate ears that have listened to their music for half a decade yet never seen them live. i couldn't have hoped for more, except perhaps for a better behaved audience, as they ripped through 95 minutes of tunes spanning their entire catalogue. 'gwai staples such as 'helicon 1', 'mogwai fear satan' and 'christmas steps' pleased seasoned listeners (and as a touching move, stuart dedicated 'ithica' to johnny cash), while four songs off appy songs for happy peoplesent the huddled mass at the social into blissful shakes. the band members' versatility shone as they played a virtual game of musical chairs with their instruments, and boy, when barry gets off the keys and grabs the second bass during 'ratts', the bottom drops right out of the place!

seeing songs like 'you don't know jesus' and 'stop coming to my house' live definitely gives one a better appreciation of what mogwai is all about. that could be said for all their songs, as you really have to see stuart shred most of the strings on his guitar as he did by the end of the first half of encore 'my father my king' to get the whole of the experience mogwai have to offer. at the end of the night, i felt like i truly experienced something huge, and i also feel like i dodged a bullet by not going permanently deaf. 24 hours later, i think my hearing is back to about 90%!
