    reviews/comments

    from 'narlus spectre':

no bardo pond, which was kind of a bummer. part chimp's 1st song was really good, stealing lots of good bits from the sonic youth bag, but they got into a monotonous groove real quick. nothing wrong with focusing on a riff, but they throttled the damn thing until it didn't move. for every song. loud as f*ck too, even with ear plugs.

mogwai were fantastic. 1st time i've seen 'em. the venue was nice (small, intimate setting with great sight lines) and the sound system spot on. in particular the lighting was hugely effective. usually that's a cornball thing to say but the lighting was spot on for the songs they did and the tension which built.

they ended with 'my father my king', which i kinda imagine is how mbv used to pummel "you made me realise" into submission every night. 'you don't know jesus' was the highlight of the show.
