    review by daniel castano

yesterday i went to stadion, the best place to see good live acts in stockholm, and what i saw was much more than i expected.

the opening band was iota, a local band very much in the style of tortoise. instrumental post-rock?, with rhodes, xilophone, bass, guitar, drums, and some strange noises coming from nowhere. good tunes, but a bit repetitive at the end. not bad at all.

the main act was mogwai... and they were simply gorgeous. it was an almost completely instrumental set, but their absolute control over songs was simply perfect... evolving from spaced-out rythm-less guitar riffs with loads of delays, to huge noise walls... really intense and inspiring. in some parts of their set they were really relaxed, sitting on the floor of the stage, and playing beautiful guitar melodies...and in other, i just couldn't believe how much noise can be achieved with 2 guitars, a bass and a drummer. (ah! and a xylophone again... fetish instrument for the post-rock hordes?).

i heard their cd with remixes, and i thought it was really good... but live they are sublime!!!!
