what a great moment!!!!
i'll never regret the 350 km we've made to see mogwai's concert, which
was absolutely amazing.
the gig took place in a very small concert hall "l'escale" which i
found a bit cold...
still, there were crowds at the concert and many were determined not
to miss the event, even if "l'escale" stands a bit remote from the city
centre, where the heart of the famous french festival beats.
the first part of mogwai's concert was played by strangelove (last
concert before they split) and not by space uk as it was first
announced.
even before the beginning of the show came our first surprise: dominic
flying v bass guitar... which is not the kind of instrument a post-rock
band ordinarily uses but as huge hard-rock fan i much appreciated!!!! the other instrument were as expected:
stuart : fender telecaster, stratocaster + fender amp
john : fender stratocaster + marshall amp.
the concert as i said was absolutely great, songs like "christmas
steps", "helicon 2" (with stuart on bass, dominic on guitar), "summer",
or "mogwai fear satan" were quite amazing... what am i saying??? the
whole concert was amazing!!!!
mogwai has the power to bring the crowd travel from psychadelic dreams
to heavy metal struggle!
i found the sound great, just powerful enough to feel "in" the music
but without destroying definitely your ears!
after the show, stuart came to speak with us. he's definitely a cool
guy. we spoke about the early black sabbath (we both like the "ozzy"
period), kevin shields ("a very cool guy"), and the new album.
stuart tells us that he misses scotland, and feels very surpirse that
small bands like mine begins to cover his songs. that is success
stuart!
then we had let the guy go on the road.
thanx a lot mogwai for this timeless moment where everything was just
beauty, pleasure for the senses....
hope to see you soon!
ps: i hope that you enjoy my review despite of my poor english! thanx
stephanie for the help on the translation!
