    reviews/comments

    from tom goodwin:

mogwai really are on fine form this evening. from the magnificent and eerie introduction of 'superheroes of bmx' it's evident that tonight's show is going to be special. the sound is incredible, every notes rings with perfection, leaving me to ponder quite how these glaswegians are able to create such beauty with sound.

the set leans more towards the experimental side of recent albums, highlights include 'kids will be skeletons', 'friend of the night' and 'ratts..', the uplifting monumental sound they manufacture live make them sound like the most important band on the planet today.

mogwai have always pioneered a truly unique sound, fuelled with hope and intensity. a maturity and understanding now shines through, the songs sounding better than ever. with the show being on the opening night, it's hard to believe that any band over the rest of the weekend will even come close to this, which is some feat considering the quality of bands on the bill. the quaint and soft glaswegian accents in between songs sound modest, appreciative and somewhat nervous. it's hard to believe that their purpose in life was anything other than to play these truly beautiful songs.
