mogwai @ westbeth theatre, manhattan |

the band joined bardo pond during their set at the matador cmj showcase in new york.
jim hildreth posted the following to the drone-on list:
this would be the 6th or so time i've seen the band in 4 years, and I have
to tell you I was fucking blown away- simply stunned. this is a band at the
peak of their powers playing at the peak of their abilities. i kept thinking
"this must be what brion gysin felt like seeing the master musicians of
jajouka when he said 'this is the music I want to hear every day for the
rest of my life'". i would assert the frequencies the band creates may have
magical properties (yeah the property to numb my head). they did a couple
brand new ones, and several olders faves, and then mogwai came on stage with
them and ROCKED the fucking box, maan. bp/mogwai did one tune together and
were going to do another but whoever was running the show (and i thought i
saw gerard cosley in the crowd) started pulling the plugs onstage. no
kidding. i overheard michael gibbons say they had been rehearsing some
other stuff, so maybe that was taped and will be released?
and in a second post:
well the good news is bardo pond were fucking
searing, tears were coming into my eyes they were so fucking perfect. it was
seeing a band at the peak of the powers playing perfectly. you will be stunned
to hear it was the entire mogwai that played with the band (i haven't
figured out whch tune they did) and they were going to play some more but
fucking westbeth literally pulled the plug on them.
jim then contacted us on a later date, informing us that gerard cosloy had told him
that it was the westbeth "freaking out" about overtime that forced them to shut down
the band. a damn shame by the sounds of it. thanks for all the info jim!
from nme (keith cameron):
...the volume is painful, frankly, but we crawl to the edge of the stage, all
the better to smell the charred wood of 20 floor pedals being kicked to pieces. isobel
sollenberger might well be singing, it's hard to tell, while everyone else onstage - the
ubiquitous mogwai, obviously - grins like satan's own pooch posse
licking st. peter to death at the gates to paradise.
