review from nme (keith cameron) |
the man who lends evan (dando) his guitar plays the joker in this particular
pack of off-cmj jollies. yes, that really is mogwai's stuart braithwaite, solo, and singing. it's
something he should do more often, to judge by these equally charmed and charged versions of
spacemen 3's 'lord can you hear me?' and blind willie johnson's 'you're gonna need somebody on
your bond'. accompanied with handy joanna skills by barry burns, he also turns round his own
'cody', plus a sneak preview into the new 'gwai album with a lovely cosmic hayride called 'string
song'. wee man's got the blues, and let's hope they keep on coming.
