Mogwai played the Casbah (capacity 300) last night. This was the
loudest concert I have ever been to. The band plays with so much dynamics
that when they play the soft parts of the songs one can hear the
airconditioning buzzing and the person behind them breathing, and then when
they play the loudest parts of a song one cannot even hear their own
thoughts. The Casbah is the most intimate venue in Southern California, and
it was an honor seeing Mogwai play at a place where Stuart was answering
microphoneless the guy at the very back of the room : "No, we are not going
to play 'Tracy'. We are shite at doing 'Tracy' live. Ask the people who saw
us in Washington!" The stage was tiny. They still managed to have two
drumsets set up facing each other. The highlight of the gig for me was seeing
my fave Mogwai
songs,'Mogwai fear Satan' and 'Like Herod'. On the closer, 'Like Herod',
Mogwai were joined by the Ganger gang, blasting 6 electric guitars bass and
two drumsets for the loudest part of a live show in the world ever. When
they left the stage, the feedback was so loud that the guys that saw the
band the previous night up in LA were able to hear it. What a night! My
band, serahtonic, was there listening , watching, learning, obtaining inspiration,
experiencing an overall great live show! And, after midnight near the end of
the set, it was already my birthday which made the event even more so
special!
Mogwai: are NOT shite
thanks for the review!
