from rahman tareq:
i dont remember much from the show, as it's been a
while, and i smoked a little too much. but from what i
remember, there were some cool moments. the doors
opened at 8:30, and the show was supposed to start at
9:00, but everything started a little late, so mighty
flashlight went on at around 9:45. they played a good
set. i saw them the night before, and they were
definitely much better the second time, probably just
needed time for the songs to sink in...
mogwai came on and started with a new song. i don't
remember much. during 'you don't know jesus', when the
song switches from relatively normal to really loud
distortion, stuart faced the drummer (having his back
to the audience) displaying the cross he had on the
back of his jacket...it looked cool, expecially with
the music. the whole band looked really into the show,
the songs were flawless, from what i remember. the
only other thing i remember, and i'm sure other people
can expand on it, is 'mfmk'. 'jewish hymn' seemed to be
half an hour, with the last 5 to 10 minutes just
noise, everyone had every knob on their amp turned to
10 (either you saw the bandmember themselves turn them
up, or some guy from the side of the stage). 2 guys
from mighty flashlight came on stage near the end. if
i remember correctly, it was the lead
singer/guitarist, and bassist. they were both
adding to the noise, it looked like everyone on stage
was having a blast...defintely the best version of
'jewish hymn' i've ever heard - an amazing way to end the
night. john was the last person on stage, i think, and then it was over...
i hope it's not too long until they come back.
from eric young:
this was the first time i saw mogwai and i've heard a lot about their live
shows and they did not disappoint. they were loud as everyone says they are. thank god for ear plugs.
the show was at the cabaret, a fairly small club which probably holds 400-500 people (this is a rough
estimate). i heard that the show was sold out but i'm not entirely sure.
i was glad to hear that they played 3 new songs, although i have no idea which ones they were. they
also played some of my personal faves (x-mas steps, c.o.d.y and my all time favourite, 2 rights make
1 wrong, which was worth the price of admission alone). it was also nice to hear an encore version
of my father, my king which stretched out to about 25 minutes. stuart broke about 3 or 4 strings off
his guitar while playing mfmk and i didn't think he was going to stop untile they were all off! near
the end of the song, members of the mighty flashlights came onstage and played also. the congo/flutist
for the mighty flashlights played some flute, which was quite useless because you couldn't hear
anything except the extremely loud feedback from the guitars and bass. the person i was with also told
me that the bassist from tmf was yelling into the mic, which i also couldn't hear. stuart did not say
much except for the usual thanks yous. however, he did say thank you and hello in french, which was a
nice little welcome i think. overall, this has been one of the best concert experiences that i've
witnessed and i can't wait to see them again.
